If you want to build a ship, don’t drum up people together to collect wood and don’t assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea.
Every person is allowed to have a dream. The same counts for a company. “Wouldn’t it be great, if…..” Challenging goals are the result of big dreams.
However: a goal without a plan is just a wish… (also a wise saying of Saint Exupery). A plan will drive us to action, to take the first step. A well known riddle says: “How does one eat an elephant?” And the answer is: “one piece at the time!” It is actually that simple. If you dare to take the first step, perhaps sometimes a leap of faith!
Therefore, our strategy, our motto, our way of live is:
Think big: scetch your dreams and dare to challenge yourself, your colleagues and your management. Collect all wishes, requirements, blockades, dreams and specific solutions and consider that heap as the elephant you are going to eat “one piece at the time”. Think big is about visioning, it has to do with identifying current trends, technological disruptions, emerging competitors and the like. Don’t limit yourself or your project. Do not think: this is to farfetched. Dare to dream and to challenge.
Start small: Now we are going to eat the elephant. Pick a starting point. Define a goal that can be reached in 1, 2 or at the most 3 months. And start from there. Make it work. Show results. Make yourself and your company with concrete results. Results that actually create profit, gain benefits, reduce waste.
Dare to experiment. Dare to make mistakes, to rediscuss the solution. Dare to fail in some ways.
Scale fast: These small first and perhaps experimental projects will provide your organization with the insights and experiences necessary to do larger more impactful projects that help propel your future growth. They will also build your organizational capabilities and skills to scale, allowing you to innovate faster and smarter than your competition.
After each step: decide what is next, based on the priorities.
And within each of these steps: be flexible and agile. For that reason we strongly believe in a modern agile development. The keywords in Agile are: small solutions that deliver business value, work together in a team, learn. We visualize this agile approach:
